The Batman is the latest victim of COVID-19

Robert Pattinson has reportedly tested positive for COVID-19, delaying the filming of “The Batman” yet again. The production had to be halted just days after the it resumed filming at studios due to the pandemic.

“A member of The Batman production has tested positive for COVID-19, and is isolating in accordance with established protocols. Filming is temporarily paused,” said Warner Bros. in a statement.

They didn’t specifically say that it was Pattinson that tested positive. However, Vanity Fair confirmed through a “highly placed source” that he was the individual they meant.

The film already had been delayed several months back in March, along with most other entertainment industry work when the quarantine lockdown in the U.K. first hit. It was planned to hit cinemas in June 2021, but was pushed back to October 2021. This second delay will mean that it will almost certainly delay the project even further.

A teaser trailer of The Batman was released on 23 August during last month’s DC Fan Dome. Directed by Planet of the Apes filmmaker Matt Reeves, Robert Pattinson plays Batman in his second year of vigilantism. The superhero detective tries to solve a series of gruesome serial killings.

Besides Pattinson, actors Dwayne ‘The Rock‘ Johnson and Tom Hanks also contracted COVID-19. Johnson—along with his family—are recovering and is “no longer contagious”. Hanks recovered earlier this year.
