18-year-old Veveonah displays more maturity than 59-year-old Deputy Minister

18-year-old student Veveonah Mosibin responded on Facebook following Deputy Communications and Multimedia Minister Datuk Zahidi Zainul Abidin’s unfair claim about her at Dewan Negara. She said that she needed to “make a fair statement” about herself.

“Honestly, I felt really sad and disappointed with this. I really work hard for my online examination for the last few months. And I never expected to go viral too. This time, I’m viral again, but with some bad effects,” wrote Veveonah on her Facebook.

She added her statement over a repost of the Deputy Minister’s official apology statement yesterday. He said that he “wishes to apologise to Veveonah Mosibin”, and that he “will make the correction in Dewan Negara this coming Monday”.

This was regarding his answer to a question by Sabahan Senator Datuk Donald Peter Mojuntin regarding the status of the NFCP. Instead of just answering the question, the Deputy Minister said that based on ‘investigations’, Veveonah wasn’t taking an exam and that she’s just a YouTuber.

Though his statement caused an uproar on Twitter as netizens defended Veveonah, there were still apparently still negative comments towards her. The Deputy Minister’s inaccurate comments went even more viral after articles like this one from The Vocket made its way to social media.

“I don’t know how to deal with negative & bad comments on social media. It hurts. I do forgive all the mistakes people did to me, but still I need to make this fair statement of myself. Thanks to all that still rooting for me and supporting me. (Family, friends, lecturers and fans),” continued Veveonah.

Netizens have commented on the issue, criticising the Deputy Minister and the Government for “accusing the poor of not being poor enough to be poor”. There have also been Twitter users who claim to be her classmates that have vouched for her.
