ROG Phone 3 with official Malaysia warranty will be available on 5th Sept

The ROG Phone 3 is currently the best gaming-centric smartphone with killer hardware and an ultra-high 144Hz refresh rate display. Although it was announced globally, the flagship gaming phone has yet to be released in the Malaysia market.

If you can’t wait to get your hands on a unit with Asus Malaysia warranty, it appears that you can buy one as early as next week.

Availability in Malaysia

According to retailer DirectD, the first sale is happening on the 5th September 2020 at 9.30pm. There’s no pricing details at the moment but it is expected to be announced during a Facebook live stream by Asus Malaysia on the same day.

For the Malaysian market, we will be getting 3 variants as follows:

ROG Phone 3 Strix (5G)
SD865, 8GB RAM, 256GB storage

ROG Phone 3 (5G)
SD865+, 12GB RAM, 512GB storage
SD865+, 16GB RAM, 512GB storage

Asus Malaysia had told us that the pricing would be close to the ROG Phone II. When the previous generation was released, the base model with 512GB storage was priced at RM3,499 while the 1TB version was going for RM4,499. A few months later, Asus Malaysia had introduced a cheaper ROG Phone II Strix with 8GB RAM + 128GB storage that was going for RM2,499.

Hardware Specs

To refresh your memory, the new ROG Phone features a 6.59″ Full HD+ AMOLED display that boasts a 144Hz refresh rate and a 270Hz touch sampling rate. It can be configured with up to a Snapdragon 865+, up to 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 512GB of UFS 3.1 storage.

The device still comes with front-facing stereo speakers that feature seven magnets for more power and less distortion. However, it loses a 3.5mm headphone jack. For taking pictures, the rear now gets a triple-camera array that features a 64MP main camera, a 13MP ultra-wide-angle shooter and a 5MP macro camera. For selfies, the front comes with a 24MP camera.

Powering the device is still a whopping 6,000mAh battery that supports 30W fast charging via USB-C. The device still gets an AeroActive Cooler accessory which also provides a pass-through USB-C and a 3.5mm headphone jack. You can learn more in our announcement post.
