Acer Malaysia has announced refreshed versions of its Spin, Swift and Aspire series of laptops. The company also said it is extending its Acer Day promotions to the newly introduced products from 19 August until 30 September.
Customers who buy any of the new models from any Acer authorised online or offline retail shop can still participate in its “Buy and Win Lucky Draw” and value-added gifts worth up to RM500,000 in total.
Designed for creative individuals on the go, the new Spin 5 is a thin and lightweight convertible laptop that weighs just 1.2kg and measures a mere 14.9mm thin. Built with a sleek magnesium-alloy body, the Spin 5’s main highlight feature is the 360° hinge that lets you flexibly rotate the screen while providing better airflow for improved cooling. The rotating screen allows users to use it as a regular laptop, tablet or used as a presentation device.
You get a 13.5″ IPS touch display with a QHD (2256 x 1504 pixel) resolution. It also has a slim 7.78mm bezel, offering over 80% screen-to-body ratio. The display itself is protected by Corning Gorilla Glass.
It can also be used with the Acer Active Stylus that has up to 4,096 pressure points and Wacom AES1.0 support that is said to simulate the experience of writing with a pen and paper. The stylus is said to offer up to 90 minutes of use with a quick 15 seconds of fast charge via the dedicated storage dock on laptop.
Acer said the device will be offered in two configurations. One features a 10th gen Intel Core i7-1065G7 processor mated with 16GB of LPDDR4X RAM while the other features a Core i5 -1035G4 processor with 8GB of LPDDR4X RAM.
Both come with Intel Iris Plus Graphics and 512GB of PCIe NVMe SSD for storage. Acer claims the laptop’s battery offers up to 15 hours of use.
Connectivity-wise, the Spin 5 comes with Intel WiFi 6 and Bluetooth 5.0. There’s no shortage of ports on the device as it comes with two USB 3.1 Gen 1 ports, two USB Type-C ports and an HDMI 2.0 port. There is also a microSD card reader and a 3.5mm headphone jack.
Both variants are available immediately at Acer’s Official Online Store and all Acer’s authorized resellers nationwide. The price of the two variants is as follows:

Intel Core i5 + 8GB RAM +512GB SSD – RM4,399
During the current special Acer Day promotion period, those who buy the Intel Core i7 model can choose between one of three freebies. The new Acer Swift 1 is a new addition to the Swift series. It features metal top and bottom covers with 14.95mm thickness and weighing in at 1.3kg. Apart from that, laptop has a 14″ FHD IPS display with narrow bezels, offering an 84% screen-to-body ratio.
According to Acer, the Swift 1 utilises a fanless design that is said to help keep noise down to a minimum. Inside, you get an Intel Pentium Silver N5030 processor that is paired with 4GB of LPDDR4 RAM and 256GB PCIe NVMe SSD.
Acer claims the Swift 1 offers all-day productivity as it offers up to 16 hours of use and with just 30 minutes of charging it provides up to 4 hours of battery life.
The model sold in Malaysia comes pre-installed with Microsoft Office Home and Student 2019. In case you are wondering, this version of Microsoft’s productivity suite is a one-time purchase affair. Normally it costs RM529 when purchased separately via Microsoft’s online store.
The Safari Gold-coloured version is now available at’s Acer official online store and all Acer authorized resellers nationwide at RM2,099. During the Acer Day promotion until 30 September 2020, it can be picked up for RM1,999. It is also available in Iridescent colour though that will be available in early September.
Acer has also refreshed its Aspire models with the Aspire 3 and Aspire 5. In terms of specs, both laptops come with a 10th Gen Intel Core i5-1035G1 processor mated with 4GB of DDR4 RAM. You also get 512GB PCIe NVMe SSD of storage on both models.
The Aspire 3 features a 15.6″ FHD display with a narrow-bezel design. To help users work comfortably and reduce eye-strain Acer has included its BlueLightShield technology that it claims to filter out blue light.
It weighs 1.9kg and 19.95mm slim, certainly not the slimmest or lightest laptop out there. Adding to that Acer claims the Aspire 3 has a 7.5-hour battery life.
In terms of RAM, the Aspire 3 can be upgraded up to 20GB of RAM. It also comes with an Nvidia GeForce MX330 with 2GB of dedicated GDDR5 VRAM. Though this is a dedicated mobile graphics chip, it simply isn’t built for playing graphically demanding games though it is possible to play less demanding titles at reduced settings.
To help facilitate video calls, the Aspire 3 comes with a standard definition webcam ( 640 x 480 resolution). In terms of ports, you get two USB 3.2 Type-A Gen 1 ports, a single USB 2.0 Type-A port, one HDMI port and a 3.5mm headphone/ speaker jack.
According to Acer, the Aspire 3 is available in classic obsidian black (A315-57G-57L2 and indigo blue (A315-57G-541R). It is available via Acer’s online store for RM2,499, as well as via its authorised resellers nationwide.
The Aspire 3 is also sold on Acer’s official Shopee page for the same price. It is also offered on Lazada though some retailers offer a different variant of the laptop with a Core i7-1065G7 processor instead at RM3,299.
The Aspire 5 (A514-53-597H) comes with a smaller 14″ FHS IPS display also with a narrow-bezel design and Acer BlueLightShield technology. It is lighter than the Aspire 3, weighing in at just 1.5kg and has a thickness of 17.95mm, making it slightly more portable than its counterpart. Battery life is rated longer at 10.5 hours on a full charge.
Unlike the Aspire 3’s dedicated graphics, the Aspire 5 comes with Intel UHD integrated graphics. In addition to the on-board 512GB of SSD storage, the laptop comes with 32GB Intel Optane Memory that is said to learn user behaviour and minimises loading times.
The Aspire 5 also comes bundled with Microsoft Office Home and Student 2019.
The Aspire 5 comes with two USB 3.2 Type-A Gen 1 ports and it has a single USB 3.0 Gen 1 Type-C port. Acer only offers the Aspire 5 in one colour magic purple. The colour shifting effect of the material is really captivating as it that alters between hues of blue and purple depending on the angle you look at it.
You can find the Aspire 5 on Acer’s official online store for RM2,599 although the website will try to direct you to buy it from a local store in your vicinity. You can also find it sold on Acer’s official Shopee store and Lazada.
