Asus has just confirmed the upcoming launch of the hotly-anticipated Zenfone 7 for the 26th of August 2020, and we now have a rough idea on certain key specs and design details thanks to a series of leaks. Its predecessor, the Asus Zenfone 6, was one of the more interesting mobile devices of 2019—flagship specs and a unique camera design at a mid-range price.
The Zenfone 7, meanwhile, looks like it retains some of that goodness. Phonearena reports that we’ll see two devices being launched under the Zenfone name: Pro and non-Pro versions. The former could launch with the Snapdragon 865 Plus, while the standard Zenfone 7 is expected to feature the regular Snapdragon 865.
Meanwhile, an image that purportedly shows the spec sheet on a retail box of the Zenfone 7 reveals some key details:
As you can see, the Zenfone 7 will feature a triple camera setup. A 64MP Sony IMX686 sensor is used for the main shooter, along with a 12MP Sony IMX363 ultra-wide, and an 8MP telephoto lens. It isn’t yet clear if the Zenfone 7 gets expandable storage, however—a possibility is that Asus has decided to forgo a microSD slot.
Unfortunately, it also looks like Asus is going without a traditional 3.5mm headphone jack on the Zenfone 7. The Zenfone 6 was one of the few “flagship-class” phones to still come with a headphone jack in recent times, but this will be sure to disappoint many—despite the ongoing growth of TWS headphones.
Other reported specs include a 6.67″ LCD Full HD_ display, and a standard 60Hz refresh rate. The unique camera mechanism looks like it’s set to return, while rumours have also suggested that we may see a large 5,000mAh with 30W fast charging.
Just like its predecessor, the Zenfone 7 could be priced rather affordably. Phonearena suggests that pricing will start at around USD500 for the standard version, and USD599 (~RM2,089) for the Zenfone 7 Pro (~RM2,502). That’s pretty similar to what the Zenfone 6 was being sold for at launch, so it’ll be interesting to see if Asus can come up with another successful value-for-money smartphone.
