IQoo, the sub-brand of Vivo, recently launched its flagship gaming smartphones the IQoo 5 and 5 Pro in China. Though the two devices share many similarities, the Pro variant boasts support for 120W fast charging and has a periscope module on the back.
The IQoo 5 Pro has an exclusive BMW M Motorsport colour schemes commemorate the partnership between the two brands. Take your pick between the Legendary Edition which has a black carbon fibre textured rear panel or the Track Edition which comes in white leather is contrasted by M Sport blue, purple and red stripes.
You get a 6.56″ FHD+ (2376 x 1080 pixel resolution) AMOLED display with a speedy 120Hz refresh rate and a 240Hz touch sampling rate. There is also a punch hole cut out in the top left corner that houses the 16MP selfie camera. The IQoo 5 Pro’s display has a more prominent curve on the side edges, akin to Samsung’s Galaxy S20 Ultra.
It is worth noting that the display supports HDR10+ and features dual stereo speakers that are great for consuming content while on the go. Under the glass, you get an in-display fingerprint reader.
Like most other flagship devices in 2020 the IQoo 5 Pro, and the regular IQoo 5, comes powered by a Qualcomm 865 processor that is paired up to 12GB LPDDR5 RAM and up to 256GB UFS 3.1 storage. In addition, there is a VC heat sink that IQoo claims is able to cool the CPU temperature down by 12 degrees Celsius.
The IQoo 5 Pro together with the IQoo 5 support 5G connectivity, making them ready for the next generation mobile networks. It will run on IQoo UI 1.5 that is based on Android 10.
Camera-wise, the IQoo 5 Pro has a triple camera setup on the rear with a 50MP main camera that uses a Samsung GN1 sensor. This is the same sensor found on the recently released Vivo X50 Pro+. It is supported by a 13MP ultrawide camera and an 8MP periscope camera that offers 5x optical zoom and up to 60x hybrid zoom.
To help keep images and videos steady, it comes with Electronic Image Stabilisation (EIS) and Optical Image Stabilisation (OIS). It is also able to record videos up to 8K in resolution.
But the main highlight of the IQoo 5 Pro’s has to be the inclusion of 120W FlashCharge fast charging. The company claims you can charge the phone from 0 – 50% in just 5 minutes with the included FlashCharge fast charger. But if you want a full charge, it can do it in 15 minutes. Granted, the battery has only a 4,000mAh capacity which is disappointingly small by today’s standards.
The fast charger can also be used to charge a USB-C PD powered laptop up to 65W.
The more modest IQoo 5 has a 6.56″ AMOLED screen with 120Hz refresh rate. The display is flat as opposed to the curved glass on the Pro variant.
The triple camera array on the back shares the same 50MP main camera and 13MP ultrawide camera as the IQoo 5 Pro. You get a 13MP portrait camera in place of the periscope camera. Though you lose the ability to zoom to faraway objects, this helps add ‘bokeh’ effect when snapping subjects like people or objects. It can also record up to 8K quality videos and is aided by EIS to help users get a steadier recording.
Another noticeable difference with the Pro variant is the IQoo 5’s 4,500mAh battery. It is by no means the biggest battery you can get but it the extra capacity should help it last longer. While it doesn’t have the incredibly fast 120W fast charge it still supports 55W fast charging that is reported to deliver a full charge in 50 minutes.
The new IQoo 5 series will be available in China starting from 24 August onwards at the following prices:
IQoo 5:
8GB + 128GB – CNY 3,998 (about RM2,416)
12GB + 128GB – CNY 4,298 (about RM2,597)
12GB + 256GB – CNY 4,598 (about RM2,778)
IQoo 5 Pro:
8GB + 256GB – CNY 4,998 (about RM3,020)
12GB + 256GB – CNY 5,498 (about RM3,322)
There is currently no word if the IQoo 5 and 5 Pro will be sold outside of China. IQoo does not have an official presence in Malaysia but it is currently operating as an independent brand in India.
