COVID-19: New cases jump to 16 today, half are from Tawar cluster

Malaysia has recorded 16 new COVID-19 cases today which brings the total number of cases to 9,235. Fortunately, there are no new deaths recorded and the death toll remains at 125.

The Ministry of Health has reported 23 new recoveries and a total of 8,925 patients have recovered and discharged so far. The recovery rate is currently 96.64% while the mortality rate is at 1.35%.

There are currently 185 active cases remaining which are isolated and receiving treatment. 7 patients are in ICU while 3 require respiratory support.

Out of the 16 cases today, 4 are imported while 12 are transmitted locally. The imported cases are all foreigners which consists of 3 individuals arriving from Bangladesh and one arriving from the Philippines.

In terms of local cases, Kedah records 7 new cases which include 4 from the Tawar cluster and 3 from the Sala cluster. Penang has also recorded 4 cases from the Tawar cluster. Meanwhile, there’s one new case in Johor that was detected through a screening at the workplace. All local cases reported today are Malaysians.
