Honda City 2020 for Malaysia boasts more torque than a Camry 2.5, now open for booking

The all-new Honda City for 2020 is coming to Malaysia very soon and interested buyers are now able to book the car at their nearest authorised dealers. Ahead of the official announcement, Honda has released its teaser video for its City RS i-MMD model which boasts a staggering 253Nm of torque. That’s more than what you get with vehicles from higher segments.

As indicated in the teaser video above, the new hybrid powertrain will be making its global debut here in Malaysia. According to Paul Tan, the City RS i-MMD will be the top model of the range. The new powertrain which is also known as e:HEV is claimed to provide high efficiency electrification with a direct and smooth response. It is said that the 253Nm torque is delivered through a 109PS (107hp) electric motor that’s paired with a 1.5 litre petrol engine that works like a range extender.

For a comparison, the current Toyota Camry with a 2.5 litre engine produces 181 hp of power and 235 Nm of torque. Meanwhile, the Honda Civic with a 1.5 litre turbocharged engine outputs 171 hp and 220 Nm of torque.

In addition, the top-spec City will also feature Honda’s LaneWatch blind spot assist, electric parking brake, 16″ aluminium wheels and LED for both headlight and tail lights. If you prefer a traditional combustion engine, Honda is also offering a 1.5 litre NA unit which claims to be the most powerful in the B-Segment.

Instead of a SOHC unit on the existing City, the new 1.5 litre engine powering the 2020 model is a DOHC i-VTEC version. In India, the Honda City with the i-VTEC petrol engine and CVT gearbox pushes out 121 PS (119hp) and 145Nm torque.

So far there’s no pricing details for the new 2020 City. As a comparison, the current face-lifted model is priced from RM75,295.36 for the S variant and it goes all the way up to RM87,600.63 for the V spec option. Meanwhile, the previous Honda City 1.5 Hybrid was launched with a RM89,200 price tag.

As an early bird promo, customers that book under the Special Early Programme will get a RM1,000 service voucher that’s valid for one year. The new sedan will be going for a nationwide tour on 24th August.
