Xiaomi Mi 10 Ultra: Everything you need to know

Xiaomi has taken the covers off its Mi 10 Ultra to commemorate its 10th anniversary. Like the name suggests, this is the new top-of-the-line offering of the Mi 10 series and it boasts an insane 120x zoom.

Pricing and availability

The Mi 10 Ultra will be available first in China from the 16th August 2020. Xiaomi is currently offering pre-order with a CNY 100 (about RM60) deposit. Below is the official pricing for the Mi 10 Ultra in China:

8GB RAM + 128GB storage – CNY 5,299 (about RM3,199)
8GB RAM + 256GB storage – CNY 5,599 (about RM3,380)
12GB RAM + 256GB storage – CNY 5,999 (about RM3,622)
16GB RAM + 512GB storage – CNY 6,999 (about RM4,225)

The device comes in 3 colours – Obsidian Black, Mercury Silver and Transparent Edition which features the outline of its interior components.

Hardware Specs

Similar to the Mi 10 Pro, the Ultra model gets a 6.67″ OLED display that pushes a Full HD+ resolution. However, it gets a higher 120Hz refresh rate along with a 240Hz touch sampling rate. The Mi 10 Ultra’s screen also offers a high 5,000,000:1 contrast ratio with up to 1120 nits of brightness.

The Ultra’s screen also boasts high colour accuracy with JNCD <0.63 and Delta-E <1. For a more immersive video playback experience, you still get stereo audio playback using both top and bottom speakers.

The display on the Ultra still gets a punch-hole on the top left corner to house a 20MP in-display selfie camera. Also included is an in-screen fingerprint sensor.

Unlike most newer flagships that are launched in the second half of the year, the Mi 10 Ultra still runs on a Snapdragon 865 (non-plus) processor. However, you can configure it with up to 16GB of LPDDR5 RAM and up to 512GB of UFS 3.1 storage.

In the camera department, the Ultra gets an upgraded quad-camera setup. It features a 48MP main camera that uses a large 1/1.32″ sensor with both OIS and EIS. There’s also 20MP ultra-wide-angle camera, a 12MP portrait lens that supports 2x optical zoom and a 48MP periscope telephoto camera that can do an equivalent of 10x optical zoom with OIS.

The device can push up to 120x in digital zoom. In addition, it supports 8K video recording in 24fps which works on both main and ultra-zoom cameras. According to DxOMark, the Mi 10 Ultra currently has the best camera on a smartphone with an overall score of 130 points. That’s 2 points higher than the Huawei P40 Pro.

Keeping the lights on is a 4,500mAh battery which is the same capacity as the Mi 10 Pro but it uses a graphene-based Li-ion battery with a dual-cell design. However, Xiaomi is turning things up a notch with higher 120W fast wired charging and 50W wireless fast charging. With the 120W charger, you can get 41% charge in just 5 minutes while a full charge takes just 23 minutes.

For wireless charging, Xiaomi claims to be the first to mass produce 50W wireless charging technology. With its Wireless Charging stand, you can get a full charge without cables in just 40 minutes. The fast charging technology has also received TÜV Rheinland 3.0 certification.

The Mi 55W wireless charging standard is priced at CNY 199 (about RM120). Meanwhile, the Mi 20W Smart Tracking Pad, which looks like Xiaomi’s answer to Apple’s AirPower wireless charger, is going for CNY 499 (about RM301).

According to Xiaomi, this is their first premium phone to be assembled at their new Smart Factory which boasts fully automated production line. This covers from production management to machine processing, packaging and storage. The Smart Factory boasts an annual production capacity of over 1 million units and it will be focused on making Xiaomi’s flagship smartphones.
