COVID-19: Sole new local case is a former patient who recovered in May

Malaysia has reported 7 new cases today which brings the total number of COVID-19 infections to 9,070. Fortunately, there are no new deaths reported and the death toll remains at 125.

There are 47 new recoveries today and a total of 8,775 patients have recovered and discharged so far. Today records the highest number of daily recoveries since 2nd July. The current recovery rate is 96.75% while the mortality rate is 1.38%.

At the moment, there are 170 active cases remaining which are still receiving treatment. 2 patients are in ICU and one of them require respiratory support.

Out of the 7 new cases today, 6 are imported while the remaining 1 case is transmitted locally. The imported cases include Malaysians returning from China, Yemen and Myanmar. The imported new cases also involve foreigners arriving from Japan, Pakistan and Mexico.

The sole local case is a Malaysian reported in Negeri Sembilan. According to the Ministry of Health, this is the person’s second infection after recovering in early May. The individual was found positive again through a screening at his workplace.

As of 12pm today, there are no red zones in Malaysia. Kubang Pasu has the most number of active cases at 19, followed by Kuching with 17 active cases and Kangar with 12 active cases. Pulau Pinang, Kelantan, Terengganu and Melaka are fully green.

There are no new cases reported for the Sivagangga cluster. A total of 4,198 individuals have been tested so far for the cluster. 43 were found positive while 3,235 tests returned negative. 920 individuals are still waiting for their results. According to the Ministry, contact tracing and active case detection is still ongoing.
