Samsung Galaxy Tab S7 series: Everything you need to know

Samsung’s Galaxy Unpacked 2020 event was more than just the Galaxy Note 20 series. It also announced two new tablets, in the form of the Galaxy Tab S7 and Tab S7+.

These two versatile tablets are claimed by Samsung to combine the power of a PC and flexibility of a tablet and connectivity of a smartphone.

The two tablets are largely differentiated by their screen size the larger S7+ will use a 12.4” AMOLED (2800 x 1752 pixel resolution) display with HDR10+ which should be able to push up to 1000nits of brightness. The S7 on the other hand sports an 11” LTPS LCD (2560 x 1600 pixel resolution) is capable of 500nits of brightness.

The two new tablets are also said to be the first Samsung tablets to feature a high refresh rate of up to 120Hz. Also included are quad speakers that are tuned by AKG and has support for Dolby Atmos.

Looks-wise, the Tab S7 and S7+  sport a similar look and feel to the current Tab line with thin bezels and symmetrical shape. More than just a tablet, the two tablets can easily be converted into a full productivity device with an optional keyboard accessory.

The new book cover keyboard cover comes with a large trackpad that supports multi-finger gestures and a full-size keyboard. You also get Samsung’s DeX mode that offers a desktop environment to use and interact with your apps.

For multitaskers who need to extend their screen real estate, both tablets can be used as a second screen for their Samsung PCs. According to Samsung, supported computers include the Galaxy Book Flex, Galaxy Book Flex alpha, Galaxy Book Ion, Galaxy Book S and Samsung Notebook Plus based on Windows 10 OS.

There’s a magnetic slot on the back of the device that lets you attach and charge the S Pen stylus. The tablet’s version of the S Pen is similar to the S Pen found on the Galaxy Note 20 series. Samsung has improved the stylus’ latency reducing it to only nine milliseconds, which it claims to feel as smooth as writing with a pen on a real piece of paper.

One other differentiating factor between the two tablets, the Tab S7 uses a side-mounted fingerprint reader while the larger Tab S7+ has an in-display fingerprint reader.

Both tablets will have dual camera arrays on the rear with a 13MP main camera that is supported by a 5MP ultra-wide camera. There is also an 8MP selfie camera on the front.

In terms of specs, both tablets will come powered by a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865+ processor and comes with up to 8GB of RAM. In terms of storage, you can get up to 512GB on the new Tab S7 and S7+. But that’s not all, it also supports microSD cards up to 1TB if you need to carry even more data.

The Galaxy Tab S7 series tablets will be available in three variants: WiFi, LTE and 5G. Here is a break down of their specs and variations.

The S7 will have an 8,000mAh battery while the S7+ has a capacity of 10,090mAh. Both will have support 45W fast charging via a USB-C 3.2 Gen 1 port. 

The new Tab S7 and Tab S7+ come in three new colours: Mystic Black, Mystic Silver and Mystic Bronze. The Tab S7 has a thickness of 6.3mm and weighs as light as 498g, while the Tab S7+ is even slimmer at 5.7mm and weighs just 575g.

As announced by Samsung during its global Unpacked event Galaxy Tab S7 and S7+ will be available from 21 August.

Samsung Malaysia has listed the Galaxy Tab S7 WiFi with 128GB of storage on its website, but it did not provide any information on its pricing or availability.
