Oppo Reno 4 and Reno 4 Pro Malaysia: Everything you need to know

Oppo Malaysia has unveiled its new Reno 4 series just barely 3 months since it introduced the Reno 3 and Reno 3 Pro in our local market. The new devices boast a more powerful Snapdragon processor and a different quad-camera setup.

Pricing and availability

Reno 4 (8GB RAM + 128GB storage) – RM1,699
Reno 4 Pro (8GB RAM + 256GB storage) – RM2,399

The devices are available for pre-order from today, 3rd August until 7th August 2020. The first sale is happening on the 8th of August at Oppo concept store, Oppo official e-commerce stores including Lazada and Shopee, official dealer stores, telco partners and chain store partners.

The Reno 4 is available in Space Black and Galactic Blue, while the Pro variant comes in Starry Night and Starry White.

As a pre-order promo, Reno 4 Pro buyers can get additional freebies worth RM398 which include the Oppo Enco W31 TWS and 1-year screen protection warranty. They will also get to redeem a RM100 Klook voucher which is limited to the first 2,000 redemption via the My Oppo App. Meanwhile, those that pre-order the standard Reno 4 can get a 1-year extended warranty worth RM119.

Oppo Reno 4

The standard Oppo Reno 4 comes with a 6.43″ Full HD+ AMOLED display that features a dual-punch-hole camera for selfies. Under the hood, it runs on a Snapdragon 720G processor with 8GB RAM and 128GB of storage which is expandable via microSD card expansion.

For taking photos, it gets a 48MP f/1.7 main camera, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens, a 2MP macro camera and a 2MP mono camera for depth effects. Unlike the Reno 3, there’s no telephoto camera. In front, the device gets a 32MP main selfie camera and secondary 1.2MP sensor for its AON feature. This can be used for smart privacy prevention, smart air gesture, smart always-on display and smart auto rotation.

Powering the Reno 4 is a 4,015mAh battery that supports 30W VOOC 4.0 fast charging via USB-C. Also included is a 3.5mm headphone jack. Out of the box, it runs on ColorOS 7.2 based on Android 10.

Oppo Reno 4 Pro

The Reno 4 Pro is the higher spec model of the series that comes with a larger 6.55″ Full HD+ AMOLED display. For a more fluid experience, the dual-curved screen also pushes a higher 90Hz refresh rate and a 180Hz touch sampling rate.

Under the hood, it also runs on the same Snapdragon 720G processor with 8GB of RAM. However, the Pro model gets a larger 256GB of internal storage.

In the camera department, it also gets quad-camera setup that’s similar to the standard Reno 4. It has a 48MP main camera, an 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens, a 2MP macro shooter and a 2MP mono camera. Despite having the Pro name, the device lacks a telephoto camera that was available in the previous model. For selfies, it gets a 32MP front camera that’s housed in a tiny punch-hole in the top left corner.

The Oppo Reno 4 Pro gets a 4,000mAh battery which is slightly smaller than the non-Pro version, but it supports a higher 65W SuperVOOC 2.0 fast charging technology. According to Oppo, a quick 5-minute charge is enough to provide 4 hours of video playback and a full charge takes just 36 minutes. And yes, it still comes with a 3.5mm headphone jack.

Take note that the Reno 4 series for the Malaysia market is different from the version that was announced in China. The Chinese version runs on a Snapdragon 765G processor and it supports 5G.
