LG releases the world’s first 144Hz 4K IPS gaming monitor with 1ms response time

LG Electronics has introduced the new 27” UltraGear (27GN950) that it claims is the world’s first 4K (3,840 x 2,160 pixel resolution) gaming monitor with a 1-millisecond (ms) response time and 144Hz refresh rate.

The new UltraGear monitor comes with a 16:9 aspect ratio and 1000:1 contrast ratio. You also get 400nits brightness and boasts a 98% coverage of the DCI-P3 colour gamut. On top of that, the screen comes with a 178-degree viewing angle and it supports 10-bit colour depth at full resolution.

LG has included a stand with a flexible ergonomic design that easily enables users to raise, lower, tilt or pivot the monitor to find their perfect viewing angle.

That’s not all, the gaming monitor is certified for DisplayHDR 600 and HDR10. It also is both NVIDIA G-Sync compatible and supports AMD FreeSync Premium Pro technology that LG claims will provide gamers with enhanced image quality with reduced screen tearing and stutter-free experience.

LG’s new UltraGear is not just for gamers but it can also benefit creative professionals who need to edit high-resolution files or access multiple applications simultaneously. With its support for 10-bit colour depth and hardware calibration, this gives the monitor the level of colour accuracy needed for professional-level video production work.

In terms of connectivity, the monitor offers two HDMI ports, one Display Port, a USB downstream and an upstream port. There is also a headphone-out port for connecting your favourite headphones and speakers.

Another highlight of LG’s latest gaming monitor is its RGB Sphere Lighting 2.0, ambient lights on the back of the monitor that lights up according to the colours appearing on the monitor.

According to LG’s press release, the new UltraGear monitor will be sold in its key markets across Europe, North America and Asia. There is however no word as to what is its price and availability in Malaysia.

A check on B&H Photos in the US shows that the LG UltraGear 27GN950 is sold for USD 796.99 (about RM3,385). The site also lists the monitor as being available in September 2020.
