Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra could be the first phone to use Gorilla Glass 7

The Samsung Galaxy Note 20 and Note 20 Ultra will be announced on the 5th of August 2020. Two weeks before the big event, reliable leakster Roland Quandt has shared almost everything we need to know about the upcoming Samsung flagship smartphone with an S Pen.

As seen earlier, the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra retains a familiar industrial design but it gets a larger camera bump to house a much improved triple camera setup. The placement of the buttons and even the S Pen silo have been swapped from the current Galaxy Note 10+.

According to the leaked spec-sheet that’s published on WinFuture.de, the Note 20 Ultra will feature a 6.9″ Dynamic AMOLED display that pushes a Quad HD+ resolution of 3200×1440 pixels. This is somewhat identical to the current Galaxy S20 Ultra. The screen is capable of pushing a 120Hz refresh rate which can be adjusted dynamically depending on your current application. It still isn’t clear if it can run 120Hz in its highest Quad HD+ resolution.

What’s interesting is that the device is said to be the first smartphone to feature Gorilla Glass 7. This should provide greater durability than Gorilla Glass 6. According to Corning, the current Gorilla Glass 6 can survive 15 drops from 1 metre onto rough surfaces, and it’s 2x better than Gorilla Glass 5.

As shown above, the Galaxy Note 20 Ultra will continue to come with a dual-curved display which gives it a more narrower width. For those who prefer a flat screen, you might want to check out the smaller Galaxy Note 20 model instead.

Under the hood, the device for the European market is said to come with the same Exynos 990 SoC as the current Galaxy S20 series that’s offered here. The device will come with 12GB of RAM and with internal storage options of either 256GB or 512GB, which can still be expanded via microSD card.

In the camera department, the Note 20 Ultra is said to feature a high-resolution 108MP f/1.8 main camera that comes with dual-pixel autofocus assisted with laser autofocus. There’s also a 12MP f/3.0 periscope telephoto camera which is said to offer 5x optical zoom and another 12MP f/2.2 shooter for ultra-wide-angle shots.

As speculated earlier, the Note 20 Ultra will not come with 100x Space Zoom, a feature that was introduced with the Galaxy S20 Ultra. Utilising all 3 cameras, the new Note flagship will have to settle for 50x Space Zoom. For selfies, interestingly, it will only come with a 10MP selfie shooter instead of a 40MP unit that’s offered on the S20 Ultra.

Being a Note device, Samsung is also introducing new enhancements for the S Pen and it is said to offer 9ms latency for a more realistic writing experience. As leaked recently, Samsung is also expected to introduce a new “laser pointer” feature for the stylus.

As you would expect for a flagship device, it will support 5G, WiFi 6, dual-GPS, NFC and USB-C 3.2. There’s also IP68 water resistance, stereo speakers and support for Samsung Pay.

Although the Note is seen as a productivity device, Samsung is expected to announce a gaming collaboration with Microsoft for Xbox streaming over xCloud. It is speculated that Note 20 Ultra users could get access to 90 games over the cloud and this can be seen as a response to Apple Arcade.

The Galaxy Note 20 Ultra is said to come with a 4,500mAh battery which is smaller than the S20 Ultra’s 5,000mAh unit but it’s still slightly larger than the Galaxy Note 10+. For the Europe market, it is offered in either Mystic Bronze and Mystic Black. Since Malaysia is a key market, expect Samsung to drop pre-order details shortly after the global Unpacked event.
