COVID-19: New cases jump to 18 today, 4 new clusters detected

Malaysia has recorded 18 new cases today which brings the total number of confirmed COVID-19 cases to 8,755. Fortunately, there are no new deaths reported and the death toll remains at 122.

There are 3 new recoveries today and a total of 8,541 patients have recovered and discharged so far. The recovery rate is currently 97.56% while the mortality rate is 1.39%.

At the moment, there are 92 active cases remaining which are currently isolated and receiving treatment. 3 patients are in ICU and there are no cases require respiratory support.

Out of the 18 new cases, 8 are local while the remaining 10 are imported. From imported cases involving Malaysians, there are 4 returning from Australia, 2 returning from Kazakhstan and 1 returning from Qatar. There are also 2 foreigners from the LNG Jupiter Ship and 1 foreigner from Pakistan.

In terms of local cases, there are 4 cases involving Malaysians in Sarawak, 2 Malaysians in Terengganu and 1 foreigner each in Selangor and Kuala Lumpur.

The Ministry of Health has reported 4 new COVID-19 clusters. This includes the Jupiter ship where the crew are being screened by health authorities in Bintulu and the Kuching Medical Centre in Sarawak. The remaining two clusters are PUI Pitakwa in Kemaman, Terengganu and PUI Shirala in Lembah Pantai.
