With the current COVID-19 pandemic, everyone is advised to wear a face mask when you go outside and to wash your hands frequently with soap. When it comes to our personal devices like our smartphones, sterilisation is equally as important to reduce the spread of infection. Last week Samsung had introduced its UV Steriliser which also doubles up as a wireless charger. Now it appears that this accessory is coming to Malaysia very soon as it has passed SIRIM’s certification.

As listed above, a Samsung device with the model number GP-TOU020SABWW has gotten the SIRIM greenlight. This matches the model number of the ITFIT UV steriliser that’s currently listed on Samsung Hong Kong’s product page.

To recap, this Samsung accessory has dual UV lamps on the inside which claims to kill up to 99% of bacteria and germs including E.coli, Staphylococcus aureus, and Candida albicans. You can use it to sterilise your phone, earbuds or even your sun glasses, provided that it can fit inside the box.

On the inside, there’s a Qi wireless charger which can help to charge your devices if you plan on leaving it overnight. However, it is worth pointing out that the UV function turns off automatically after 10 minutes. The sterilising process works on the exposed surfaces so it isn’t recommended to stack multiple devices on each other.

According to the spec sheet, the wireless charger has 10W of power and it weighs 715.2g. It can fit devices up to the Galaxy S20 Ultra. So far there’s no pricing yet for the UV steriliser.

Thanks @KevinNgTK for the tip!
