As reported last month, Penang RFID users will be able to enjoy a 20% discount for the Penang Bridge toll starting from the middle of this month. According to Berita Harian, the discount will be available this coming Tuesday, 14th July 2020.

According to PLUS Malaysia Managing Director Datuk Azman Ismail, the 20% discount is applicable to those that reside, work or study in Pulau Pinang. The Penang Bridge toll currently costs RM5.74 and eligible users will only need to pay RM4.59 with the 20% discount.

How to get the discount?

JImat Di Penang PLUS RFID toll

In order to enjoy the toll discount, RFID users would need to register with PLUS on the PlusMiles portal and a PlusMiles account is required. The same portal can be used to enable the 20% discount on the physical Touch ‘n Go card.

PLUS Penang Bridge classification

From the looks of it, the discount for RFID users is only applicable for class 2 and 3 vehicles. According to PLUS’ vehicle classification for the Penang Bridge, class 2 covers motorcycles with sidecars, commercial vehicles having 3 wheels, cars and station wagons. Meanwhile, class 3 covers lorry and vans with 2 axles and 4 wheels. It also includes bus with 2 axles and 4 wheels.

Touch ‘n Go RFID usage is currently tied with Touch ‘n Go eWallet. Users must ensure they have sufficient balance at all times and they reload on the app via credit or debit card as well as online banking. For greater convenience, users can also enable auto-reload which will automatically reload from your saved card when your credit goes below a certain balance.

For users that don’t have an RFID tag, they can have it fitted for RM35 at their nearest fitment centres. Alternatively, you could also DIY by ordering your own TNG RFID self-fitment kit for RM35 on Lazada and Shopee.
