COVID-19: New cases jump to 18 today (28 June), all 14 local cases are non-Malaysians

Malaysia has recorded 18 new COVID-19 cases today which brings the total number of infections to 8,634. There are no new deaths reported in the past two weeks and the death toll remains at 121.

There are 10 new recoveries today and a total of 8,318 patients have recovered and discharged so far. The recovery rate is now 96.34% while the mortality rate is at 1.40%.

COVID-19 Malaysia Status

According to the Ministry of Health, there are 195 active cases remaining which are still receiving treatment. 2 are in ICU and no patients require respiratory support.

From the 18 new cases reported today, there are 4 imported cases. This consists of 2 Malaysians returning from Iraq, 1 Malaysian returning from the United Kingdom and 1 permanent resident returning from Bangladesh.

All 14 new local cases reported today are foreigners and there are no new local transmissions that involve Malaysians. From the new local cases, 9 are from the Pedas cluster followed by two cases each in Sabah and Sepang Immigration Detention depot cluster. There’s also 1 new case in Kuala Lumpur.

The Ministry of Health is aiming for zero cases by mid-July 2020. They reminded the public that this is only possible if everyone continue to adhere to the SOP which include practicing good hygiene and to ensure social distancing at all times.
