Honor 9A Malaysia: Everything you need to know

The Honor 9A is now official and it’s the company’s new budget smartphone that’s priced under RM600. The device comes with a triple-camera setup and a large battery.

Pricing and availability

In Malaysia, the Honor 9A is officially priced at RM549 and it comes in a single variant with 3GB RAM + 64GB of storage. It’s available in either Phantom Blue or Midnight Black.

The device will be available starting from 26th June 2020 on the official online store as well as Honor Experience Stores. As an introductory promo, they are bundling freebies worth RM218 while stocks last. This consists of an Honor Backpack, an Honor Bottle and 1-year 15GB Huawei Cloud storage.

Hardware specs

The Honor 9A features a 6.3″ LCD display that pushes a HD+ resolution of 1600×720 pixels. It runs on a Mediatek MT6762R (Helio P22) processor that’s mated to 3GB of RAM. If the 64GB onboard storage isn’t enough, you can expand it further via microSD card up to 512GB.

The rear of the device has a 13MP main camera, a 5MP ultra-wide-angle camera and a 2MP depth sensor. There’s also a rear-mounted fingerprint sensor. For selfies, the tiny notch at the top houses an 8MP selfie camera which also supports Face Unlock.

Powering the Honor 9A is a 5,000mAh battery which still charges via microUSB. Although the device runs on Android 10 with Magic UI 3.1 skin on top, it doesn’t have Google apps and services pre-installed. Instead, it runs on Huawei Mobile Services which comes with its own Huawei AppGallery. Essentially, the Honor 9A is a rebadged Huawei Y6p and it comes with a slightly lower price tag.

If you’re looking for a new Honor smartphone that still has Google apps and access to Play Store, you could consider the Honor 9X Lite which was launched in Malaysia last month for RM699. Alternatively, you could also check out the Redmi 9 that packs a Full HD+ screen and a 5,000mAh battery for less than RM500.
