AirAsia to add more flights to Langkawi, Kota Kinabalu, Kuching and Penang

As there are more demand for domestic travel during the recovery movement control order (RMCO), AirAsia will be increasing its flight frequencies for several popular local destinations. The popular routes include Langkawi, Kota Kinabalu, Kuching and Penang.

According to CEO Riad Asmat, the low-cost carrier will increase more flights from Kuala Lumpur to Langkawi, Kuching and Kota Kinabalu, as well as Johor Bahru to Kuching and Penang. He added that the number of add-on flights for the month of July will be announced later.

Since the resumption of flights, AirAsia says they are seeing encouraging demand for domestic travel. They will continue to monitor the demand and they hope to gradually increase its frequencies from its other hubs such as Kota Kinabalu, Kuching and Penang.

The CEO added that it is paramount for AirAsia to continuously educate travellers about safe flying and they have implemented various measures to minimise the risk of COVID-19 transmission. This includes temperature screenings, limited hand-carry items, mandatory face mask, end-to-end contactless procedures, proper hygiene standards and inflight medical training for cabin crew.

It is mentioned that COVID-19 transmission on board is extremely low for an aircraft as it is equipped with hospital-grade HEPA filters and the air is fully filtered and renewed every 2-3 minutes. As announced recently, airlines are now allowed to operate at 100% capacity and all passengers must wear a face mask at all times before, during and after the flight.

AirAsia says they are supporting the government’s initiatives to promote local tourism and most recently, they had offered an unlimited travel pass at RM399 which offers unlimited flights within Malaysia. According to the airline, over 40,000 flights have been redeemed with the unlimited pass.

AirAsia has also introduced Snap, which allows customers to enjoy greater savings when they book their flights and hotels together. They are currently running a sale and it ends today.
