Proton reveals updated price list with 0% sales tax

Malaysians can enjoy tax incentives for the purchase of new cars under the PENJANA plan. The government is offering full sales tax exemptions for locally assembled cars and 50% sales exemption on imported cars from mid-June until the end of the year.

Following the announcement, Proton has announced its new prices which will take effect starting today. Prices for Proton models are reduced between 1.2% to 5.7%, with savings of up to RM7,000. You can check out the updated price list from Proton below:

The Proton Saga has the least price reduction of RM400 for the base manual model and RM500 for the automatic variants. The Iriz gets a reduction between RM500 to RM800, while the Persona gets a price cut between RM500 to RM900.

For the Exora MPV, the price cuts are more significant with RM2,500 off for the Executive model and RM2,000 off for the Premium model. Interestingly, the executive model gets a bigger discount than the Premium model.

Meanwhile, its flagship X70 2020 SUV gets a price reduction between RM4,900 to RM7,000. With this tax incentive, you can own the entry-level X70 for less than RM90,000. while the top of the line Premium X model that comes with a sunroof is going for RM115,800.

Do note that the Proton price list, as shown above, is On-The-Road without insurance. If you’re wondering why the price cut isn’t significant for models such as the Saga, Iriz and Persona, Paul Tan has reported that this could be due to the fact that Proton had absorbed SST when it was reintroduced in September 2018.

According to Proton CEO Dr Li Chunrong, there has never been a better time to own a new Proton. He said, “With our industry-leading number of 3S/4S outlets, refreshed model range, periodic improvements we have introduced as well as the new prices, our customers will receive even better value for their money.”

With 700,000 people working both directly and indirectly in the industry, it contributes approximately 4.3% to the national GDP and will thus play a leading role in any economic recovery effort,” he added.
