Xiaomi Mi Band 5 features larger AMOLED display and a magnetic snap charger

Xiaomi introduces the Mi Band 5, its latest wearable which replaces the Mi Band 4. It offers a series of features, including a larger AMOLED display. It also boasts a magnetic charger, which is a huge improvement over the current Mi Band 4.

Features

Mi Band 5 comes with a 1.1-inch AMOLED display, which is a 20% screen size increase compared to the Mi Band 4. It also comes with a maximum brightness of 450 nit, which has five adjustable brightness levels, and a 2.5D tempered glass panel.

The band introduces more health-related features including sleep monitoring, which has several improvements to help including monitoring irregular and sporadic sleep patterns, and rapid eye movement monitoring. It also calculates heart rate variability and respiratory information during sleep.

For people who face sub-optimal health issues, Mi Band 5 has a built-in PAI Activity Index. It allows you to calculate your heart rate and can provide you with helpful information to aid exercise routines.

Besides that, the band offers other unique health tracking functions, like a menstrual cycle prediction function paired with a vibration alert for female users. There is also a a stress monitoring feature that can advise you to adjust your breathing, or try to rest and relax.

What’s notably cool, besides the bigger screen, is that the Mi Band 5 has a magnetic charging cable that you can snap onto the back of the band. On the Mi Band 4, charging is quite a hassle as you would need to remove the band from the strap and then attach it to a charging dongle. Xiaomi also promises up to 14 days of battery life.

Additionally, it has 5ATM-rated water resistance, which means it can be submerged up to 50 metres deep.

Other internal features include that you can pair the band with your phone as a remote control for taking selfies from a distance, and if you opt for the Mi Band 5 NFC version, it will allow you to activate XiaoAi AI assistant with a swipe to the right on its display. With it, you can control smart devices, set alarm clocks, measure your heart rate, check the weather, and start exercise routines using voice controls.

There are 8 colours available for the strap, including black, blue, pink, orange, purple, yellow, and green. The Mi Band interface also has fifty-four IP featured themes, including Spongebob Squarepants, Neon Genesis Evangelion, Hatsune Miku, and Detective Conan.

The Mi Band 5 is currently priced at CNY189 (RM114), while the Mi Band 5 NFC version retails at CNY229 (RM138). However, it doesn’t currently have an official Malaysian price yet. There are no details of the availability date here, either, but the Band will be for sale in Mainland China on the 18th June.
