Sony finally unveiled the design of the PlayStation 5, after postponing their 4th June reveal event due to the anti-racism protests taking place in the United States. While many PlayStation fans are showing their excitement on social media, there is also a large part of them who are a little startled at the new PS5 look.
Sony took a bold turn in the new design, switching from the classic black look of the previous incarnations (not including the grey PS1) to a white design that will most likely stand out next to your television set.
While I thought the new PlayStation 5 design looked nice and sleek, I still couldn’t help laughing at memes that people have already been making to poke fun at it. There are some hilarious ones in the replies section of PlayStation’s Tweet.
Of course, there are some jokes posted everywhere else on Twitter:
Despite all these jabs at the consoles design, Twitter users are comparing it to the new Xbox Series X look. Many have compared to the new Xbox design to a refrigerator, or other similarly shaped objects.
I think these Tweets are a good indicator towards how a lot of people feel. They’re excited, but wary of the bold look. The change of colour is also something that people might not have expected, and Twitter user @MrUnknowArtist even rendered a black version of the same design—which admittedly looks really good.
Sony announced two versions: one with a 4K Blu-ray drive and another pure Digital Edition without an optical drive. However, it has not announced a firm release date or price point.
