Xiaomi’s sub-brand Redmi has introduced its new Router AX5 in China. According to Redmi, the router is ideal for smart homes with many connected devices. It claims the router can support up to 128 WiFi-enabled devices.

Decked in white, the Router AX5 comes with four independent signal amplifiers that are said to increase the router’s signal by 4dB. It also supports WiFi 6 connectivity, the next generation standard in WiFi technology, boasted to deliver speeds of up to 1,775Mbps. That is 52% quicker than the previous WiFi 5 standard. On the back, the Router AX5 has three Gigabit LAN ports and one Gigabit WAN port.

The router is also said to able to create a mesh network. This enables it to widens the network and eliminate dead zones in the home. It is also claimed to provide a stable connection without any lag.

It is powered by a 14nm Qualcomm enterprise-class processor that posses four Cortex-A53 cores and an NPU core. This allows the router to maintain a steady connection by allowing the NPU to take on certain tasks from the CPU. Besides that it possesses a lower process node, allowing the chip to generates less heat compared with a typical router.

The Redmi AX5 will be sold for CNY249 (about RM150) with pre-orders in China starting on 10 June.
