U-turn: Rapid KL will not end social distancing rules for LRT, MRT and Monorail

After Rapid Rail Sdn Bhd had announced that it will stop social distancing measures starting tomorrow, Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob who leads the National Security Council has dismissed the decision. According to the minister, Rapid Rail has no authority to make such changes without getting approval from the government or the National Security Council.

It was reported earlier that Rapid Rail Chief Executive Abdul Hadi Amran had announced that Rapid KL rail services will resume 100% capacity in line with the Transportation Ministry’s SOP for the Recovery Movement Control Order.

He said that existing safety and health procedures in place will remain in effect and he hoped that all passengers will continue to remain self-disciplined and comply with the new normal while using public transport. In the earlier announcement, it was shared that wearing face masks is still compulsory for all and those who have temperatures above 37.5 degrees Celsius will not be permitted to board.

In addition, all passengers are also encouraged to download the MySejahtera app so that they can scan their QR codes at the stations. Rapid Rail expects the total daily ridership to return back to 750,000 instead of the 200,000 and below, during the MCO.

After the decision was dismissed by the minister, Rapid KL has issued a statement which mentions that it will comply with the government’s decision to continue social distancing within the LRT, MRT and Monorail services. It says that the policy will continue to be in force on Rapid KL services until a new decision is made by the government.
