PLUS Malaysia Berhad Northern Region business manager Wan Ahmad Awang has announced that Penangites with RFID will soon enjoy 20% discount for Penang Bridge toll. The discount will be available from the middle of July and it is applicable for motorists residing or working in Penang.
Although the discount is for private vehicles only, it benefits over 80% of vehicles that use the Penang Bridge. He added that further details on the discount will be revealed soon by PLUS and Touch ‘n Go.
With RFID, the toll charges will be deducted from the Touch ‘n Go eWallet and this reduces the need for physical contact which will minimise the risk of COVID-19 infection. At the moment Penang RFID users are paying RM5.74 for Penang Bridge toll and they will soon pay RM4.59 with the 20% discount.
RFID will soon be implemented at the Hutan Kampung-Sungai Dua route in July but the 20% discount will not be available. RFID was originally scheduled to be supported at all closed-system toll plazas on the PLUS highway by 1st April 2020, but the implementation has been deferred due to the movement control order.
In case you missed it, Touch ‘n Go has started offering DIY RFID Self-Fitment Kits that you can install on your own. It costs RM35 each and it is currently sold on Lazada and Shopee.
