Will CMCO be extended? PM to make an announcement at 3pm on Sunday

The current Conditional Movement Control Order (CMCO) is expected to end on Tuesday, the 9th of June 2020. With just 3 days to go, Prime Minister Muhyiddin Yassin is making a special address to the nation tomorrow and we will find out if the CMCO will be extended further.

As mentioned by Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob this afternoon, the Prime Minister will provide an update on the CMCO on Sunday. He hinted that it could be good news for bachelors that want to reunite with their family members at another state.

You can watch the announcement at 3.00pm tomorrow (7th June) across multiple platforms including RTM, Bernama TV, TV3 and Astro Awani. 

The movement control order (MCO) took effect from 18th of March and several sectors were allowed to reopen under the CMCO that started on 4th May. In his previous address, he had announced a 4-week extension until the 9th of June 2020.

In case you missed it, the Prime Minister has revealed the National Economic Recovery Plan yesterday which aims at boosting the country’s economic growth. Some of the initiatives announced yesterday included an extension of the wage subsidy program, distribution of RM50 eWallet credit, extended free 1GB data offer and tax relief up to RM5,000 for laptops and devices for WFH.

In case you missed it, the government has also announced the barbers, hair salon and business that provide facial, pedicure and manicure services will be allowed to resume operations starting 10th June. However, they would need to adhere to strict SOP which includes the use of face shields and disposable apron for customers.

When it comes to the COVID-19 situation, Malaysia has been recording a lower number of new cases involving citizens in the past few days. However, there is still a growing concern for foreigners which include those who are detained at immigration detention centres and workers staying at confined spaces.

There are 37 new cases today which include 8 imported cases and 29 local transmissions. Out of the 29 local cases, 10 are Malaysians while 19 are foreigners. There are currently a total of 8,303 confirmed cases and 117 deaths reported in Malaysia so far.
