Married couples separated due to MCO can travel interstate to reunite starting 1 June

Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob has announced that married couples who are staying at different states due to work will be allowed to travel interstate to be united staring Monday, 1st June 2020. According to the minister, the decision to allow interstate travel for couples or families who are living apart was agreed after receiving advice from the police.

At the moment, interstate travel is not permitted during the conditional movement control order (CMCO) unless it is for emergency or medical reasons. The government had initially allowed separated married couples to travel interstate on 10th of May but it was suspended before the Hari Raya Aidilfitri period.

According to the New Straits Times, those planning to travel interstate with the intention of reuniting with their spouses must apply through the Gerak Malaysia app. Alternatively, they can submit a manual application at their nearest police station.

Interstate travel for work

It is also reported by Malay Mail that the government is also allowing interstate travel for work. This means individuals that stay in Seremban and work in Putrajaya will be permitted to travel interstate daily.
