Malaysia has recorded another triple-digit figure in daily cases with 187 new COVID-19 cases recorded today. This brings the total number of cases to 7,604. Fortunately, there are no new deaths and the death toll remains at 115 for four days straight.
There are 62 new recoveries today and a total of 6,041 cases have recovered and discharged so far. With the number of new cases outnumbers the number of new recoveries, the recovery rate has dropped to 79.45% while the mortality rate is currently 1.51%.
At the moment, there are 1,448 active cases remaining. 8 are in ICU while 5 require respiratory support. Out of the 187 cases, 10 are imported involving 7 returning Malaysians and 3 permanent residents.
Among the 177 local cases, only 4 are Malaysians. The remaining 173 cases are non-Malaysians which include 155 new cases from the immigration detention depot at Bukit Jalil and 13 new cases from the Cheras security guard cluster. There are 2 new cases from Pudu and one new case from the Setia Alam construction site.
According to the Ministry of Health, they are still investigating the source of the infection. There’s a possibility that infection came from a detainee or staff that provide services at the depot. It was mentioned that all incoming detainees at detention centres are now required to undergo mandatory screening.
They are also looking into prisons and other detention centres for possible infections. Individuals at such centres must be screened and those found positive will be isolated at hospitals for treatment. Meanwhile, those are negative will be placed under a 14-day quarantine.
