Malaysian gamers recreated a Malay wedding on GTA 5, and it’s so pure

YouTube channel GTA 5 Malaysia posted a Malay-themed wedding recreated on the game Grand Theft Auto V (GTA 5), garnering more than 200,000 views since the 16th May. It was streamed live on Facebook by Malaysian streamer AvengedTV before it ending up on YouTube.

The wedding in GTA 5 was recreated by custom mods, which enabled players to create an accurate depiction of a Malay themed wedding reception. This included custom clothing like ‘baju kurung’ and ‘baju melayu’ and the wedding tent decorations.

You follow AvengedTV through the ceremony, as one of the groom’s representatives dressed in yellow, as they walk towards the bride’s representatives dressed in purple. Upon reaching the bride’s representatives, they proceeded with an exchange of funny and creative ‘pantuns’ just like in old-school Malay weddings.

The whole group of players then led themselves into a decorated tent full of everything you’d recognise in Malay weddings including food decorations, to the stage where the bride and groom sits, to decked out tables and chairs. There were also players who played various roles, including a ‘head chef’ asking the ‘pengantin’ to eat, and a videographer asking people to “move away” so he could shoot some footage.

They apparently also followed a detailed schedule, including a time for ‘silat’, and even prepared a silly group choreographed dance to a ‘line-dance’ song. However, there were also distractions that made me belly laugh like a lost GrabFood rider running around and an alien who showed up driving a Delorean like from ‘Back To The Future’.

“MYRP was the first ever server to introduce a Malaysian touch in it and now there are also other servers implementing the same thing. There were around 40 to 50 players involved with the wedding and the server itself can contain up to 120 players at a time,” said streamer AvengedTV, whose real name is Noor Azwan Mohd Noor.

The custom modifications seen in the stream were made from scratch by Arief Solehin and Isma Danial by using FiveM. FiveM is a modification for GTA V which enables players to play multiplayer on a customised and dedicated server.

Azwan also said that they are in the midst of customising a “Hari Raya” modification, and are currently setting up a traditional Malaysian village scene.

While weddings and other mass gatherings are still prohibited during the MCO, Malaysians have been taking advantage of technology to create virtual alternatives. Previously, we’ve reported that there has been a first virtual wedding in Malaysia officiated by JAIS.

Also, in case you missed it, today is the last day you’ll be able to get GTA 5 for free on the Epic Games store.
