MYTV: B40 households and OKU must register to get free decoder by 31 May

B40 households and people with disabilities that have yet to receive their free myFreeview digital TV decoders are urged to register their interest by 31st May 2020. To apply, all you’ll need to do is to fill up a form here by providing your personal details including your IC number. Alternatively, you may call MYTV at 1800-18-1088 or 1300-80-6988.

For those that have registered but have yet to receive their free decoder may check their status on the same site. According to the Malaysian Communication and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), registrations that are received after the 31st of May will not be processed.

To ensure all Malaysians are not left behind, the Malaysian government through the MCMC has allocated an additional 300,000 free decoders for B40 and people with disabilities nationwide. These are in addition to the 2 million units that were distributed previously by MYTV. Analogue TV broadcast has been switched off in November 2019, and Malaysia is now broadcasting terrestrial TV in digital format.

By going digital, Malaysians not only can enjoy better image and audio quality, but it also enables interactive TV services that will be introduced in the future. With the end of the analogue broadcast, Malaysia is able to free up the 700MHz spectrum for 5G usage.

The free to air digital TV service which is called myFreeView currently offers 15 TV channels and 6 radio stations. To tune in, you can either watch it directly on a DVB-T2 compatible TV or use a decoder box with your existing TV.
