Razer deploys vending machines that dispense free face masks in Singapore

Gaming hardware brand Razer is planning to to dispense locally produced masks in Singapore through a network of vending machines. The company will initially deploy 20 machines around the country.

The machines will be set up at Frasers Property’s malls and JustCo co-working centres around the business district by 1st of June, when Singapore is set to lift their lockdown measures. It is compulsory to wear face masks in public even after they’ve eased the ‘Circuit Breaker‘, with first-time offenders subject to a SGD 300 fine.

Razer will distribute approximately five million free surgical masks to every Singaporean resident aged 16 and up, with more made available for purchase. Seen in the video above, you will be able to retrieve the masks by downloading and opening the Razer Pay app (iOS, Android). You can then fill in and verify your profile, collect and locate your free mask coupon, scan the QR code at the vending machine, key the number corresponding to the mask slot, and collect your mask.

“Razer will continue our endeavours in supporting Singapore to be self-sufficient for face masks as a nation,” said Min-Liang Tan, Razer’s chief executive officer.

Razer, most known for gaming gear, is among a wave of companies that have modified or set up new factory lines to meet a surge in demand for medical products during the COVID-19 pandemic. The company has tied up with Sunningdale Tech to double its surgical mask production capacity to up to 10 million a month after setting up a manufacturing line in April.

As for Malaysia, while we do not have anything like mask vending machines yet, Senior Minister Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri stated that Putrajaya has given out 32.6 million face masks to the state and district disaster management committees through 162 district offices will be distributed to the households. He also reassured Malaysians that there are sufficient basic necessities to meet the needs of everyone in the country throughout Ramadan.
