ThinkPads have become synonymous with business laptops over the years, and Lenovo has just announced that the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 8 is now available in Malaysia for pre-order. According to the company, the ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 8 is their flagship business laptop, and comes powered by a 10th Gen Intel Core i7 processor.
The ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 8 has a starting price of RM7,299, with the option to custom the laptop’s memory, storage, processor, and even display. If you’re a Citibank customer, Lenovo also says that there will be a RM698 x 12 months installment plan, while pre-order customers can also get up to 75% in discounts on selected accessories.
As far as customising your setup goes, customers have a choice between 10th Gen Intel i5 and i7 processors, while up to 16GB of LPDDR3 RAM is available. Meanwhile, storage configurations go up to 2TB of PCIe SSD storage, and there is only integrated graphics: Intel UHD Graphics 620.
In keeping in line with the ThinkPad branding, the laptop is also MIL-STD certified, which means that it has passed 12 military-grade requirements, as well as 200 quality checks. And with many professionals needing portability in this time and age, the ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 8 weighs in at 1.09kg and measures about 1.52cm in depth.
There are five 14” display options to choose from, starting with a base IPS touch display pushing a Full HD resolution. Meanwhile, at the top-end of the range, you have a 4K IPS display, with support for Dolby Vision HDR400.
Something that might come in handy for some of you is ThinkShutter, which is basically a physical shutter the covers the laptop webcam when you’re not using it. This might be a better compromise than the pop-up function key webcam found on certain other laptops like the Huawei MateBook X Pro, for example.
Sustaining the device is a 51Whr Li-polymer battery, which Lenovo says can offer up to 18 hours of battery life. The company also says that you can charge the ThinkPad from 0–80 percent in 60 minutes, with up 65W charging supported via Lenovo’s Rapid Charge technology.
Additionally, the ThinkPad X1 Carbon supports WiFI 802.11 AX, Bluetooth 5.0, as well as options for WWAN and NFC. There are two USB-C Thunderbolt 3 ports, along with 2 USB 3.1 (Gen 1) ports on the laptop, a microSD card reader, and HDMI 1.4, Ethernet, and ports.
Of course, you will have the popular ThinkPad keyboard experience, although Lenovo says that the layout has been redesigned to give users quick access for video call functions and more. As for colours, there are two options: Black, and Black with Carbon-Fiber Weave that is only available on the 4K HDR400 display model.
Meanwhile, the company is also offering a Hari Raya promotion until the 31st of May 2020, with savings on Thinkpad laptops worth up to RM3,868. To find out more about the Hari Raya promotions, click here. To find out more about the Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen 8, click here.
