COVID-19: New cases jump to 70 today (11 May), 13 are imported cases

The Ministry of Health has reported 70 new COVID-19 cases in Malaysia today, which is the highest since the CMCO was introduced on 4th May. This brings the total number of infections to 6,726.

Unfortunately, there’s one new death recorded and the current death toll is 109. There are also 88 new recoveries today and there are now a total of 5,113 patients that have recovered and discharged. The current recovery rate is 76.02% while the mortality rate is 1.62%.

At the moment, there are 1,504 active cases remaining. 20 are currently in ICU while 7 require respiratory support.

Out of the 70 new cases, 31 are non-Malaysians. There are 13 imported cases, while the remaining 57 cases are local transmission. Kuala Lumpur has the highest number of new cases at 35, followed by Negeri Sembilan with 16 new cases. There are also 10 new cases in Sabah, 4 in Pahang, 3 in Selangor and one each in Melaka and Putrajaya.

At the moment, there are a total of 9 red zones as of 12am on the 10th of May. Kota Samarahan which was a red zone previously has turned yellow as the number of active cases has dropped below 40. There are now 116 green zones and 76 yellow zones. The northern states of Pulau Pinang, Perlis, Kedah and Kelantan are fully green, however, Perak now has a new yellow zone after recording two new cases in Manjung yesterday.

As of today, there are no reports of new cases at the 3 EMCO clusters such as the PJ Old Town market at Jalan Othman, Selayang Baru in Selangor and Pusat Bandar Utara and its surrounding KL Wholesale market.

Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah has also shared that a total of 31,408 returning Malaysians from overseas have been placed under quarantine since early April. 23,218 have already completed their quarantine and a total of 353 positive cases were detected, which is equivalent to 1.12%.
