Poco to launch a new phone on 12 May, is this the F2 you’ve been waiting for?

[ UPDATE 9/05/2020 12:00 ] Poco F2 Pro is launching at 8pm on 12 May. More details here.

====

When Xiaomi introduced the Pocophone F1 back in 2018, it was an impressive flagship killer that comes with an unbelievable price tag. A few months ago, the company made a comeback but turns out the Poco X2 wasn’t the device that everyone had hoped for. Pocophone has just announced that a new device will be revealed next week and this seems to be their new flagship which could be called the Poco F2.

As usual, Poco is promising to provide the latest features without the additional frills. In its teaser letter, it says that it recognises real innovations are necessary and that everything else is just extra cost with no added benefits.

Based on the latest teaser video which kept on harping on its flagship-class Pocophone F1 and that #POCOisBack, this seems to be a true successor that the fans are looking for. Although the name isn’t confirmed, the last few seconds seem to indicate that this could be the Poco F2 (or Pocophone F2 for other markets outside of India).

The device will be unveiled on the 12th of May 2020 but they have yet to provide the actual live stream time. We still don’t know if the device will be released in Malaysia anytime soon considering the Poco X2 which is essentially a rebadged Redmi K30 has yet to make its appearance in our local market.

It’s worth mentioning that in one of its recent teasers, it indicates that fans have waited for 256 days for the device. If you calculate back from that date, it points to 22nd August 2019. The thing is, Poco is off by a full year. The original Pocophone F1 was actually launched on 22nd August 2018.

Looking at the current pricing of Xiaomi Mi 10, you can expect a higher price tag if the Pocophone F2 is equipped with a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor. The new device is speculated to be based upon the Redmi K30 Pro which comes with an AMOLED screen and a Snapdragon 865 processor. All shall be revealed next Tuesday.
