COVID-19: 45 new cases today, 73.15% of cases have recovered in Malaysia

Malaysia continues to record double-digit numbers with 45 new COVID-19 cases today. This brings the total number of infections to 6,428. Unfortunately, there’s one new death reported, which brings the death toll to 107.

There are 135 new recoveries today which is three times the number of new cases. At the moment, a total of 4,702 patients have recovered and discharged. The recovery rate is now bumped up to 73.15% while the mortality rate is 1.66%

Currently, there are still 1,619 patients receiving treatment. 22 are currently in ICU with 9 patients requiring respiratory support. After experiencing a surge of triple-digit cases over the weekend, Malaysia has been recording less than 60 new cases for three days straight during the CMCO period.

Out of the 45 cases recorded today, there’s one imported case. Kuala Lumpur has 22 new cases, followed by Sarawak with 11 new cases. Meanwhile, Selangor has recorded 9 new cases and there are 2 new cases in Negeri Sembilan.

The Ministry of Health has also updated that a total of 227,436 COVID-19 test samples were taken so far and only 2.83% return positive. In the past 3 days, 11 states/territories have recorded zero new cases. The only states with new cases in the past 3 days are Selangor, Kuala Lumpur, Negeri Sembilan, Sarawak and Melaka.

According to the health director-general, Dr. Noor Hisham Abdullah, although the number of new cases are low, it is still early to declare the risk of COVID-19 is low. He said that we will be able to defeat COVID-19 if everyone plays their part to ensure social distancing similar to Taiwan, South Korea and Vietnam. Until a vaccine is found, we will have to continue to live with COVID-19.
