Why is a smartphone with a 90Hz screen important?

It has been a long time since there has been a truly interesting advancement in smartphone technology. There was a little bit of a lull, but with the advent of the high refresh rate display, that lull has come to an end.

Why? Well, there are few spec updates on a smartphone that can completely change your usage experience the way a high refresh rate display can. And if you ask anyone who has made the switch, you’ll find that almost all of them will be very reluctant to go back to a “normal” screen.

If you’re unfamiliar with the concept of a high refresh rate smartphone display, i.e. anything more than 60Hz, you may think that this would only affect mobile gamers. But, that’s actually a common misconception. With a high refresh rate display, you’re actually getting a whole ‘nother smartphone experience that’s smoother and more fluid than any “regular” smartphone.

You see, a screen’s refresh rate refers to the number of times a display will refresh the contents of your screen. This is usually measured in hertz, and the higher the hertz, the more often it refreshes what’s on your screen. When the contents of your smartphone screen gets refreshed more often, it can lend a fluidity to everything you do on screen, even something as simple as swiping around on it.

A high refresh rate screen isn’t just for gamers

Yup, that means even regular daily tasks will feel smoother. For example, if you simply swipe across the icons and home pages on your smartphone’s screen, you will immediately be able to notice a difference. The device with the high refresh rate screen will feel significantly smoother because the screen refreshes what’s being displayed more frequently, minimising motion blur.

This also extends to doing stuff like browsing a web page. Scrolling up or down on a website will feel unlike any other smartphone with a “normal” refresh rate screen. Text won’t look blurry if you scroll quickly and the effect is quite profound.

And, if you tend to use applications that have a lot of animations or graphical motion, you’ll reap the benefits too because those animations will look and feel way smother on a high refresh rate screen. This also goes for UI elements, so even if two phones are moving at the same speed, the one with the higher refresh rate will feel faster.

On top of that, you’ll be able to immediately notice this difference even if you’re jumping from a 60Hz screen to something like a 90Hz screen—it’s that dramatic.

Then, if you’re also a mobile gamer on top of that, you can also take advantage of games that support high refresh rates to also experience this fluidity in-game. There are plenty of mobile titles that support high frame rates including big titles like Vainglory.

With faster refresh rate displays in-game, you’ll be able to take more advantage of the higher frame rates some of these games can run at. It allows you to keep track of the action better as you’re playing, even if the pace gets faster and the action gets turned up to 11.

But, high refresh rate displays are expensive…or are they?

That being said, the fact is that there simply aren’t many smartphones in the market right now that feature high refresh rate displays, and you wouldn’t be wrong to assume that this is something you’d only find in expensive flagship smartphones. After all, it wasn’t until rather recently that we started seeing mainstream high-end devices start shipping with these high refresh rate displays.

But, what if we told you that you could also have this game-changing new screen for just over RM1,000. Yes, that’s an affordable mid-range smartphone with what is almost exclusively a high-end feature. It’s called the realme 6, and it has a proper 90Hz display, 8GB of RAM and 128GB of internal storage for just RM1,199. On top of that, the phone itself also packs some killer specs in the form of a gaming centric MediaTek Helio G90T processor.

This phone also features a 64MP AI quad camera, a large 4,300 mAh battery plus support for 30W Flash Charge fast-charging technology! You even have a 16MP selfie shooter up front, that lives in a small punch hole in the corner of the display, so you don’t have to deal with unsightly notches.

And, if you want a little more oomph, realme will also be introducing the realme 6 Pro in Malaysia shortly which also packs some banging specs, including a Snapdragon 720G processor, and that juicy 90Hz Ultra Smooth Display.

Take the leap today towards the next big step in smartphone evolution, and do so without breaking the bank with the realme 6 and 6 Pro. It will change your entire smartphone experience, and you’ll never want to go back again. Learn more about realme’s new smartphones right here.
