After recording 88 new cases yesterday, the Ministry of Health has reported a decline in new COVID-19 cases in Malaysia at today’s press conference. 51 new cases were reported today which brings the total number of cases to 5,742.
Unfortunately, there are 2 new deaths reported today which brings the death toll to 98.
Among the new cases, 34 are from EMCO areas. According to the Ministry of Health, 20 are from Selangor Mansion, 10 from Pusat Bandar Utara and surrounding areas of Pasar Borong Selayang, 3 from Malayan Mansion and 1 from Kg. Sungai Lui.
The country continues to report more recoveries with 99 cases being discharged today, which brings the total number of recoveries to 3,762. At the moment, Malaysia has a recovery rate of 65.52%, while the mortality rate is 1.71%
Overall, the number of active cases continue to drop with 1,882 people still receiving treatment. The number of critical cases has decreased slightly with 36 in ICU and 16 cases requiring respiratory support.
As Malaysia enters the extended phase of the movement control order, the country has reported less than 100 daily cases for 9 straight days. Health director-general Dr Noor Hisham Abdullah says Malaysia’s progress continues to outperform the global average of 28.5% for recovery and 6.96% for death.
However, he warned against taking the encouraging figures to mean that Malaysia could relax its efforts against COVID-19. He said Malaysians were beginning to let their guard down as a result, which could jeopardise all the effort and sacrifices that have been made throughout the MCO.
