Realme 6i Malaysia: Everything you need to know

As the newest addition of the Realme 6 series, the Realme 6i has been officially launched in Malaysia on the 16th of April 2020. This is the cheaper alternative to the Realme 6 which was launched in Malaysia last month.

Pricing and availability

The Realme 6i comes in two colours, ‘Green Tea’ and ‘White Milk’, designed by Naoto Fukasawa, and it comes in two spec options. Below is the official Realme 6i pricing in Malaysia:

4GB RAM + 128GB storage – RM899

The 3GB RAM + 64GB storage goes on sale earlier, on 23rd April 2020. As an early bird promo in Shopee, you can get it for RM599 while stocks last. The higher spec 4GB RAM + 128GB storage will be available at all authorised retail channels from 25th April.

Realme 6i hardware specs

The Realme 6i features a 6.5″ HD+ display that comes with a 20:9 screen ratio. It uses an IPS LCD panel that comes with a tiny notch.

The phone is the first in the world to run on a MediaTek Helio G80 chipset, which is designed to provide speedier performance for gamers and it claims to provide stable frame rate close to 60fps.  The octa-core CPU has a main frequency of up to 2.0GHz, offering 35% better performance than the previous generation. The Mali G52 1000MHz GPU also delivers 25% better performance over its predecessor.

For the Malaysian market, the phone comes in two options, 3GB RAM + 64GB storage or 4GB RAM + 128GB storage. If you need more storage, you can expand further by adding a microSD card.

The Realme 6i features a 48MP wide camera with f/1.8 aperture and 6P lens as well as a 8MP ultra-wide-angle lens with a 119° field of view. There’s also a a 2MP portait lens and a 2MP ultra macro lens that lets you capture subjects as close as 4cm. For selfies the camera features a 16MP f/2.0 camera.

The device features a 3-card slot design which allows you to insert two SIM cards plus one MicroSD card. This allows you to expand storage while enjoying dual-SIM card functionality. It has GPS, Bluetooth 5.0 and supports 2.4GHz 802.11b/g/n WiFi.

The phone has a headphone jack at the bottom along with a USB Type-C charging port. The model also comes with a non-removable 5,000 mAh massive battery that supports 18W Quick Charge.

The Realme 6i is RM100 cheaper than the Realme 6, and this phone has slightly underwhelming qualities in comparison to their sibling. However, for an extra RM100, the Realme 6 seems to be a better proposition as it comes with better hardware and a more fluid 90Hz display.
