Just a month after the Redmi Note 9S was announced, Xiaomi Malaysia is now bringing its new flagship, the Mi 10 series. This is their latest 5G smartphone that is powered by Qualcomm’s top-of-the-line Snapdragon 865 processor.
According to Xiaomi Malaysia, the launch is taking place on the 22nd April 2020. Since Malaysia is currently under the movement control order, the device is expected to be revealed via a live stream event.
As seen in the teaser image, the camera bump indicates that this is the higher-spec Mi 10 Pro. The text “5somethingG” also indicates that it will support 5G for our local market. We don’t have the pricing details just yet but it will be significantly more pricey than last year’s Mi 9 series.
To recap, below is the European pricing for the Mi 10 series:
Mi 10 Pro
8GB RAM+ 256GB storage – EUR 999 (about RM4,828)Mi 10
8GB RAM + 128GB storage – EUR 799 (about RM3,862)
8GB RAM + 256GB storage – EUR 899 (about RM4,345)
Do note that Europe prices for smartphones are much more expensive than Malaysia but to put things into perspective, the Mi 9 6GB RAM + 128GB was launched at EUR 499 in Europe (RM1,999 in Malaysia), which is half the price of the new Mi 10 Pro.
We will find out more about the Mi 10 series pricing and availability during the launch event next week.
The Mi 10 and Mi 10 Pro comes with a 6.67″ AMOLED display that pushes a Full HD+ resolution and a 90Hz refresh rate. In Europe, both devices are offered with 8GB of LPDDR5 RAM and 256GB of UFS 3.0 storage, but the standard 10 also gets an additional smaller 128GB option.
The key difference between the two is the camera setup. The Pro features a 108MP main camera, 20MP ultra-wide-angle lens, an 8MP telephoto camera that does 10x hybrid zoom and a 12MP telephoto camera that can do 2X optical zoom.
On the standard model, it also gets the same 108MP main camera but a lower resolution 13MP ultra-wide-angle shooter. There’s no telephoto camera and the Mi 10 gets two 2MP cameras for depth and macro.
The Mi 10 series boasts having the best stereo speakers on a flagship smartphone. It features symmetrical dual-speaker setup with Hi-Res audio certification. In terms of battery, the Mi 10 Pro gets a 4,500mAh unit while the Mi 10 has a slightly larger 4,780mAh capacity.
The Pro model can support 50W fast wired charging and 30W fast wireless charging. Meanwhile, the Mi 10 maxes out at 30W for wired but it still supports 30W fast wireless charging.
