Apple’s latest Mac Pro accessory doesn’t even improve performance but costs RM2,799

The talk the of the town right now—for Apple fans, at least—is the new, affordable iPhone SE. After months of rumours, Apple’s latest entry-level phone is priced aggressively, and combines powerful internals with the sightly dated-looking iPhone 8 design. But Apple also announced something else: replacement kits for the feet and wheels of Mac Pro computers.

This is Apple’s powerhouse desktop solution, and pricing starts at a staggering RM25,999. In fact, if you max out the hardware options when purchasing the computer, you could end up paying something like RM230,000.

Keeping in line with that (very) premium pricing, replacement kits for the Mac Pro’s feet and wheels are now available at RM1,199 and RM2,799 respectively. According to Apple, the feet kit is for Mac Pro owners who opted for wheels when making the purchase, and vice versa.

Feet Replacement Kit:
Installation required. A 1/4-inch to 4 mm hex bit is included, but additional tools are necessary. Replacing the Mac Pro wheels with feet reduces approximately one inch to the height of the frame.

Wheels Replacement Kit:
Installation required. A 1/4-inch to 4 mm hex bit is included, but additional tools are necessary. Replacing the Mac Pro feet with wheels adds approximately one inch to the height of the frame.

Of course, this isn’t the most unexpected of news. The pricing of the wheel and feet kits don’t even come close to the Pro Stand that Apple introduced for the Pro Display XDR—that will set you back a cool RM4,499. So it looks a safe assumption that future additions or accessories for the Mac Pro will retain this premium pricing.
