2020 iPhone Pro design will have flat sides, similar to iPhone 5

Bloomberg reported that there will be as many as four new handset models and the release of two key new accessories towards the end of this year. Two of the new ‘higher-end’ phones will succeed the iPhone 11 Pro and iPhone 11 Pro Max, and two ‘lower-end’ models will replace the iPhone 11.

The two ‘higher-end’ models will feature new stainless steel edges, matching the iPad Pro design that Apple released in 2018, and reminiscent of the iPhone 4 and iPhone 5 designs. The designs will also feature a smaller notch on the top of the phone, with plans to get rid of it altogether in the future.

The phones will have flat screens rather than the sloping edges, and in terms of the camera design, it appears to retain the same number of cameras as the current iPhone 11 and iPhone 11 Pro. The largest iPhone Pro will have a ‘slightly larger’ screen than the iPhone 11 Pro Max’s 6.5 inch panel as well.

The Apple Post have made some mock-up renders of what the next iPhone could look like in the above picture and below.

All the new phones are planned to include a processor upgrade to speed up artificial intelligence and AR tasks. Other key features include three cameras on the back for the higher-end phones, while the lower-end phones will continue to have two cameras. The 2020 iPhone Pro models will also feature the LiDar sensor, further augmenting their AR functionality, like the 2020 iPad Pro.

Apple is also speculated to be developing a smaller, cheaper version of its HomePod speaker, to be released as early as this year. They also plan to release Apple Tags, letting users track real-world objects like keys and wallets. New versions of the MacBook Pro, Apple TV, iMac, and an entry-model iPad are also to be expected, though these might not all be coming this year.

As for uncertainty surrounding the spread of COVID-19 and the shifting economy, Apple doesn’t expect major delays in production, though certain models could end up launching weeks later than usual. Apple’s launch plans and model specifications, however, could still change.

Apple is rumoured to launch a new “budget” iPhone that is expected to be called the iPhone SE 2020.
