During the Movement Control Order period, mobile operators are giving free data daily but there isn’t much initiative for existing fibre broadband customers. Since providers can’t give more data to unlimited broadband users, ViewQwest is offering a free speed boost to its customers for a limited time.

From 6th April to 8th May, ViewQwest is offering a speed boost to its 100Mbps and 500Mbps fibre broadband customers. If you’re on 100Mbps, you’ll get 500Mbps while 500Mbps customers will be bumped up to 1Gbps. However, this is only applicable at 6 locations in the Central Region and 5 areas in the Southern Region as listed below.

Looking at the eligible areas, the speed boost appears to be limited to premises covered by ViewQwest’s own fibre network. The broadband provider had recently expanded to more places via TM’s HSBB network.

According to ViewQwest, customers in areas that are not listed will be receiving freebies in the coming days. If you’re already on a 1Gbps plan, you won’t get further upgrades. The Speed Boost is applied automatically and the original subscribed fibre broadband speed will be restored after 8th May.

For customers that are spoiled by the new speeds, they are able to upgrade to a higher plan. According to the FAQ, customers may upgrade without extending or renewing the contract, unless they request for a router upgrade.

ViewQwest CEO, Vignesa Moorthy said, “During this period, our priority is to ensure that our subscribers are able to enjoy stable connectivity and access to world-class content available on the internet. We hope that the eligible subscribers will find the additional bandwidth allocated beneficial, whether for students to have faster access to e-learning platforms at home, or for workers to enjoy more efficient productivity during this work from home (WFH) period. Let us all stay home together and do our part in flattening the curve.”
