When it comes to foldable phones, a few companies have already entered the fray over the past year or so. We have Samsung with the Galaxy Fold and Z Flip, Huawei with the Mate X and almost-identical Mate Xs, and more brands are expected to follow suit in the future. But I’d argue that the foldable phone release that had the most romantic value is, of course, the Motorola Razr.
However, it’s certainly hard to get your hands on a unit, especially if you’re in Malaysia (click here for Rory’s hands-on). At launch, Motorola announced that the Razr will be a Verizon exclusive in the U.S., with a single colour option of black available. But with new competition in the form of Samsung’s take on the clamshell foldable form-factor, Motorola has announced a brand new colour option: Blush Gold.
Rendered press images of the colour surfaced on Twitter back in February, and now, Motorola has confirmed the new colour variant on its official U.S. website. In fact, the images on the Motorola site look identical to the leaked images, further corroborating the authenticity of the leak.
Have a look:
Based on the images above, it looks like the body of the Razr is now covered in a textured, coppery-gold finish. The display and hinge, as well as bezels of the device, are still black—creating a two-toned finish (which I’m certainly a fan of). It’s more interesting than the Noir Black version, that’s for certain.
Motorola says that the Blush Gold Motorola Razr is available at the same price as the original Noir Black version at US$1,499.99 (~RM6,454), with a single storage option of 128GB. To recap on some specs, the Motorola Razr is powered by a Snapdragon 710, while there is 6GB of RAM. Rather disappointingly, the Razr uses a small 2,510mAh battery.
The Galaxy Z Flip is the only real competitor to the Motorola’s Razr’s current form-factor, although Samsung’s clamshell is slightly cheaper at US$1,380 (~RM5,938). However, the Z Flip is powered by the flagship-class Snapdragon 855+ chipset, while you also get 8GB of RAM and 256GB of UFS 3.0 storage.
The Motorola Razr is still only available in U.S. via Verizon, so we’ll still have to wait and see if Motorola extends availability to other markets soon. Regardless–I’d love to have a Blush Gold version. To find out more, click here.
