Proton is making 60,000 face shields for medical frontliners

To support our medical frontliners in the battle against COVID-19, Proton will be producing face shields which are an essential component of a health worker’s Personal Protection Equipment (PPE) attire. According to the national car marker, the production will begin on the 13th of April.

The assembly will be done by volunteer staff at Proton’s headquarters in Shah Alam. According to Proton, they aim to produce a total of 60,000 face shields in approximately 20 days.

Proton deputy CEO, Dato Radzaif Mohamed said “As a national automotive brand, Proton is driven by its responsibility to develop the local car industry and to support Malaysia and its people in their time of need. We have the know-how to produce cars so we are using that knowledge to produce PPE equipment to support the brave men and women at the frontline of the battle against the spread of COVID-19.”

He added that the face shields will be delivered in batches and Proton will be working closely with the Ministry of Health to distribute them according to the level of need in each district.

During the Movement Control Order, Proton has obtained permission from authorities for a small number of employees to work on the face shield production line at Shah Alam. The carmaker says that they will monitor their movement and working hours to ensure that they comply with social distancing and sanitising practices.

Last month, Proton had handed over 50 units of the Proton X70 to the Ministry of Health. The vehicles will be used by medical frontliners to transport medical healthcare workers or to visit any hotspots that require urgent attention.
