Proton announces that warranties expiring during the Movement Control Order (MCO) period will be extended by 1,000km or 30 days following the final day of the MCO, depending on which comes first. This decision was made to reassure its customers regarding service and warranty related issues, as all Proton service outlets are closed during the MCO.
“Warranties will remain valid even if the vehicle misses its recommended service period. Customers are advised to service their vehicle within 30 days of the end of the MCO period to keep their warranties active,” states their press release. However, customers are advised to book a service appointment within 15 days of the end of the period.
Besides Proton, several other car manufacturers revealed their post-MCO plans. Honda Malaysia, UMW Toyota and Edaran Tan Chong Motor (Nissan) announce a 30 day warranty for cars whose warranties are expiring during the period. Volkswagen officially states that they “continue to honour the warranty of cars that were not able to meet the schedule service maintenance during the MCO” and urges their customers to book their post-MCO service with Volkswagen online.
Perodua said that the warranty of their vehicles will not be affected either if the car experience technical issues before the expiry of the warranty period (or mileage) within the MCO period. They have also contributed RM2 million to the National Disaster Management Agency’s (Nadma) Covid-19 fund.
