K30 Pro & K30 Pro Zoom: Redmi’s new killer flagship with 30X zoom

Xiaomi sub-brand, Redmi has finally unveiled its top of the line Redmi K30 Pro series. As expected with the Pro label, it comes with top-of-the-line hardware with dual-5G support and it looks nothing like the Redmi K30 that was launched in December last year. There are two models, the Redmi K30 Pro and the K30 Pro Zoom.

Redmi K30 Pro

The Redmi K30 Pro features a similar 6.67″ display size as the standard K30 but this time it’s an AMOLED panel. There are no punch-holes too and that’s because it retains the iconic pop-up selfie camera that features a 20MP sensor.

The screen which is supplied by Samsung pushes a Full HD+ resolution of 2400×1080, has HDR10+ support, a contrast ratio of 5,000,000:1 and a peak brightness of 1200 nits. However, the screen still pushes a standard 60Hz refresh rate, instead of a 120Hz refresh rate that’s offered on the standard K30.

Like the K20 Pro, it also features an optical in-display fingerprint sensor. For a more immersive “4D” gaming experience, the device uses a special linear motor that can produce 153 types of vibration feedback.

Under the hood, you can expect the very best hardware that’s available today. The device runs on a Qualcomm Snapdragon 865 processor with LPDDR5 RAM up to 8GB of RAM and an even faster UFS 3.1 storage with 128GB capacity.

For taking pictures, the K30 Pro gets a quad-camera bump which looks inspired by the Huawei Mate 30 series. It has a 64MP main camera that uses a large 1/1.7″ Sony IMX686 sensor, a 13MP ultra-wide-angle lens, a 5MP macro camera and a 2MP depth sensor. The device can shoot up to 8K videos in 24fps or 30fps, or 4K videos up to 60fps. It also supports 960fps slow-mo in 1080p.

The new flagship device also boasts improved sound chamber and like the K20 Pro, it’s also Hi-Res Audio certified. In case you’re wondering, the device still comes with a 3.5mm headphone jack and an IR blaster at the top. Connectivity-wise, it supports WiFi 6, Bluetooth 5.1, dual-frequency GPS and it also comes with NFC.

Powering the device is a 4,700mAh battery which is 200mAh more than the normal K30 and 500mAh more than the K20 Pro. On top of that, it also supports 33W fast charging via USB-C. According to Xiaomi, you can get a full charge in just 63 minutes on the cable.

Redmi K30 Pro Zoom

If you’re looking for a more versatile setup, there’s the Redmi K30 Pro Zoom. Most of the crucial hardware is similar to the K30 Pro. You still get a 6.67″ Full HD+ AMOLED display with HDR10+ support and it also runs on a Snapdragon 865 with LPDDR5 RAM and UFS 3.1 storage. The Zoom edition is only available with 8GB of RAM but it does come with up to 256GB of storage.

The K30 Pro Zoom version also gets a 64MP main camera, a 13MP ultra-wide-angle lens and a 2MP depth camera. However, the macro shooter has been replaced with an 8MP telephoto camera.

The telephoto unit has 3x optical zoom and it can go all the way to 30x in digital zoom. In addition, both main and telephoto cameras come with optical image stabilisation.

The rest of the specs remain unchanged and you still get a 20MP pop-up selfie camera and a huge 4,700mAh battery which charges via USB-C. The device also supports 33W fast charging which can push a full charge in 63 minutes.

Pricing

Below is the official K30 Pro and K30 Pro Zoom pricing in China:

Redmi K30 Pro
6GB RAM + 128GB storage – CNY 2,999 (about RM1,873)
8GB RAM + 128GB storage – CNY 3,399 (about RM2,123)

Redmi K30 Pro Zoom
8GB RAM + 128GB storage – CNY3,799 (about RM2,373)
8GB RAM + 256GB storage – CNY3,999 (about RM2,498)

So far there are no details of its availability outside of China and this could be released under a different name for global markets. The current Redmi K30 was recently launched as the Pocophone X2 while the previous Redmi K20 Pro was released in our market as the Mi 9T Pro. Perhaps, this could be released internationally as the Pocophone F2.
