With most of the major events being cancelled or postponed so far, this should come as no surprise but Computex 2020 will be rescheduled to the end of September. In an official post on the Computex website, the organisers announced that the new date will be from the 28th to the 30th of September 2020.
Given the current state that the world is in due to the COVID-19 virus, this is definitely a practical decision. Not only will it discourage large gatherings of people, but let’s face it, the last thing on people’s minds right now is the products that you usually see at the trade show.
Still, Computex has assured the people that they will still present innovations in 5G and communication, smart solutions, gaming and InnoVEX (startups) when they do eventually kick things off.
September, seems like a reasonable amount of time away, but as far as I can tell, nobody can really say for sure when this COVID-19 pandemic will end. Some want to believe that a change in weather will help quell the spread of the virus, but considering how effectively it’s spreading all over the world so many different climates, that seems like a pipe dream if I’m being honest.
The most likely way that the spread of this virus would end—short of everyone getting immune to it—is with a vaccine. Yes, the world is developing this faster than it probably ever has, but it could still be a year or more before we have an effective treatment.
I guess we’ll see what happens come September. It would be great if this pandemic really comes to an end by then, but right now the most effective way for us to fight this is to slow down the rate it spreads. Social distancing, is proving to be the most effective move so far so we don’t overwhelm our healthcare system and give the scientists the time they need find a way out of this mess.
Malaysia recently announced that the Movement Control Order (MCO) will be extended another two weeks, to the 14th of April. According to the Prime Minister, the police have reported that 95% of Malaysians have complied with the MCO and that’s honestly such a reassuring sign.
From where I am, I have a good view of one of the busiest tolls and main roads on this side of Malaysia. And every morning that I wake up to see it empty, I feel a little better that despite how stubborn us Malaysians can be, most of us know that we’re all in this together.
