PDRM traffic tickets 50% off from 25–29 March, only for online payments

The city of Kuala Lumpur—like many others around the globe—has ground to a halt. The COVID-19 outbreak, since classified as a “pandemic” by the World Health Organisation (WHO), has meant that numbers on the roads have severely dwindled. Still, many Malaysians who have traffic summonses to their name will be pleased to know that the police are offering a 50% discount in March.

From the 25th till the 29th of March 2020, the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) have announced that traffic summonses can be paid off with a 50% discount.

Physical payment counters have been closed since the Movement Control Order (MCO) took effect on the 18th of March, which means that only those who make e-payments will be eligible for the discount.

According to their statement, the discount is another form of encouragement for the public to stay at home while the MCO is in effect. However, only certain traffic offences will be eligible for the discount. This means that more severe traffic offences will have be paid in full—regardless of the discount period.

Originally, the discount was set to be announced as part of the celebrations for the 213rd Police Day on the 25th of March. However, the imposition of the Movement Control Order (MCO) has meant that celebrations are postponed, but the discount period remains. This could also be a good way for the Malaysian public to gain familiarity with using e-payments to pay for traffic summonses.

If you have traffic tickets with the PDRM to pay off, you can do so via MyEG or Rilek.
