Audible provides free access to children’s books worldwide

Keeping kids busy during times like the movement control order can be extremely tough. On the plus side, there are a lot of companies that are giving out their services for free during this period to keep your kids entertained. If your kids love watching TV, Non-Astro subscribers can get free access to 22 channels on Astro Go, which includes Cartoon Network and Astro Tutor TV. If they love stories and enjoy listening to them, Amazon’s Audible is now offering free audiobooks for children.

Audible is a platform that provides spoken audio entertainment, information and educational programmes, and it is offering its kids’ stories for free. All you have to do is head on over to this link to start listening.

The best part is, you can access it on any device and there’s no login required. Just make sure you are using the latest version of Chrome, Firefox, Safari, or Edge browsers.

At the moment, schools are closed in most of the countries affected by the COVID-19 outbreak, but parents can still keep their children entertained by using this service. The free audiobooks are available in six different languages that include English, French, Spanish, German, Italian and Japanese.

They have a collection of books for all ages, from little listeners, elementary listeners, tweens, teens and they also have the classics. In the little listener section, they have personal favourites like Winnie the Pooh and Timeless Tales of Beatrix Potter. For elementary listeners, the collection includes notable names like Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland, 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea and Bambi. For tweens, there are stories like The Reluctant Dragon and Beezer. For the teens, there are stories like Summer State of Mind and The Unexpected Everything.

Audible also has an extensive collection of classics like Romeo and Juliet, Wuthering Heights, Les Miserables, Moby Dick and Jane Eyre. They also have Folk and Fairy Tales such as Cinderella and Aladdin. These are just some of the titles of the English audiobooks.

If you enjoy Audible and want to enjoy the full experience, you can subscribe for USD 14.95 (around RM66) per month and it comes with a one-month free trial. The membership provides two Audible originals every month, guided wellness programs like meditation classes and also the news from sources like The New York Times and Wall Street Journal. The Audible app can be downloaded on iOS, Android, and Windows, and you can also download and listen on compatible Fire tablets, Kindles, Sonos devices, and more.

In case you missed it, Scribd is offering all of its books, magazines, audiobooks and documents for free for 30 days. You can use the link here to register and it doesn’t require a payment card. Scribd is different compared to Audible as it provides both e-books and audiobooks.

If you want, you can also “borrow” eBooks from our very own National Library. The books can be accessed via the web or through the Libby app. Obviously, the app provides a better reading experience and you can download the eBooks for offline reading. Do note that there’s a limited number of copies per title which is likely due to the library’s licensing agreements.
